FAQs

How will Pilates benefit me?

Some of the benefits of Pilates are; improved posture, which can lessen back pain, increased flexibility, increased body awareness, greater joint mobility, which helps to reduce injuries, increased strength & toning of muscles, a trim waistline, toned abdominals, reduced stress levels and an improvement in breathing

Do I need to be flexible to do Pilates?

Pilates improves flexibility; it’s not a prerequisite. So if you’ve got tight shoulders, hamstrings, hips, quads… Pilates will help. If you’re inflexible you’re a perfect candidate for Pilates.

What are Pilates with Niki group sessions like?

All of my group sessions are kept small and friendly. I offer options so you can work at the right pace for you; and will guide you through a fun Pilates session with hands-on guidance when necessary.

How does Pilates differ from Yoga?

Pilates is considered full body strength training and focuses on core strength, the muscles that support your spine. Pilates also works to correct posture and muscle imbalances. Yoga focuses primarily on flexibility. Both are considered mind body disciplines. Some say the focus with Pilates is “inside out” and yoga is “outside in.”

When can I expect to see results?

Joseph Pilates said: "In 10 sessions you'll feel the difference, in 20 sessions you'll see the difference, and in 30 sessions you'll have a whole new body".

Most people do start to feel that they are walking taller, feeling stronger, and moving in a looser, suppler way. Many clients opt to attend more than one session a week which also helps them experience the positive benefits even sooner. The longer you practise, the more you can see and feel the shape of your body slowly change. I encourage clients to take their learning off the mat and into their daily lives.

What should I wear and bring along to my Pilates sessions?

Any comfortable clothing, such as a T-shirt or vest with leggings or tracksuit bottoms, and socks. You will need to bring along a mat (if you don’t have one this is my recommendation) and water to stay hydrated.
