I’ve gained the deep knowledge required to teach the full Joseph Pilates Classical Mat repertoire and its modifications and adaptations to beginners and experienced Pilates clients. I have also specialised in teaching the beginner and intermediate Pilates Reformer exercises. I have taught both groups and individuals in studio, 1-2-1, 2-1, and also using COVID-19 safety measures. Another focus of my teaching is Barre, which is ballet inspired and Pilates focussed, it’s an excellent way to strengthen the body ensuring correct technique and alignment.

Pilates & Me

My introduction to Pilates came in my early 20’s when I discovered that I have Scoliosis (I have an S-shaped curvature in my spine). My physiotherapist recommended I begin regular Pilates sessions in order to reduce my discomfort and to understand my body better. I have practised both Mat and Reformer Pilates throughout my adult life and thoroughly enjoy all the variations that different Pilates sessions and teachers offer. My Pilates practise has increased my strength, mobility, and flexibility; and now as I approach my 40’s I feel fitter and healthier than ever before.

Pilates has taught me to address my imbalances and strengthened the deep muscles in my core. I’ve also taught my body how to stand and move in better alignment, as well as increasing my balance. Over the years I have benefited from the endless rewards that come with practising Pilates and continue to do so as a teacher. It was very much a natural progression to become a teacher and share my passion, enthusiasm, and growing knowledge for the Pilates method.

Ensuring I have a healthy and flexible spine is an ongoing goal for my own practise. Pilates has taught me to move mindfully and has helped to reduce stress and anxiety. I have also benefited from enhanced concentration and improved sleep from my own practise on the mat.

My life before Pilates looked very different. After graduating from university I began working for the BBC in broadcast journalism; I adored my work and time spent in radio, it was there that I began to develop my communication and journalism skills which aid my teaching now. I then moved into corporate environments for several years, working for various global brands such as Pizza Hut, WeWork & Schwarzkopf; always in a digital marketing and communications capacity. It certainly wasn’t uncommon to spend many hours at a desk, or driving / travelling for long periods. This meant it was crucial for me to balance my work and my Pilates practise each week in order to feel happy and comfortable in my body. Therefore, Pilates has always been a priority for me, the linchpin of wellbeing.
